Acceptable Forms of Identification

Proper Identification is required for any notarial service. California recognizes the following types of identification as valid (must be unexpired or have an issue date within the last 5 years):

  • California Driver License or ID Card

  • A United States Passport

  • Driver License or ID card issued by another state

  • Foreign Passport

  • California State, County, or City employee ID card (with photo, serial number, signature and issue or expiration date)

  • Inmate ID card or wristband for incarcerated signers

  • Median or Canadian driver licensed issued by an authorized agency

  • US Military Identification (must include signature)

  • The Consular Card

  • Federally recognized Tribal ID Card
